Most operators pick products emotionally. They see something they like, they think "this is cool, this should work," they launch it, and they die wondering why no one else thought it was as cool as they did. The result is the same every cycle: they kill products that would've scaled if they'd held longer, and they scale products that were never going to work no matter what they did.
Product research is the input. Everything downstream — ads, funnels, ops, scaling — depends on starting with the right product. Module 5 covers customer research, the layer for understanding the avatar inside an existing brand. Module 6 is the layer before that — how you find the product itself.
This module covers every product research methodology I run, across the full spectrum from "fast cash today" to "long-term LTV brand build."
The spectrum
The biggest framework shift for most operators: different products serve different goals. A pump-and-dump book and a supplement brand are both products. They share almost no operational DNA.
| Strategy | Time horizon | Cash flow profile | LTV | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pump n Dump | 4-8 weeks | High and fast | None | DMCA, ad bans, quality complaints |
| Untapped Sub-Market | 2-4 months | Medium, steady | Some | Smaller TAM, processor issues |
| Sales Campaigns Launch | Execution layer for any product | N/A — this is HOW you launch | N/A | Operational risk only |
| Supplement Brand Rip | 6-18 months | Slower, building | High (if built right) | DMCA at scale, rebrand timing |
| Reading & Interpreting Data | Continuous | N/A — this is HOW you evaluate | N/A | Data discipline only |
| Winning Product Next Steps | After validation | The bridge to LTV | High | Back-end fragility |
Each method is a tool. Each is the right tool for a different goal. The operators who scale across portfolios know which tool fits which moment.
What this module covers
Six sub-pages, each a complete methodology.
- Product Research Pump n Dumps — the fast-cash play. Books, gadgets, viral content. Launch → pump → cash out before the DMCA → next. The cash-flow tool.
- Untapped Product Research Method — the sub-market arbitrage play. Spanish-speaking US, UK, France, etc. Same products, lower CPC, less competition. The cheap-traffic tool.
- Sales Campaigns in Meta / How To Launch — the execution layer. The exact CBO + flexible ads + whitelist page setup that actually launches campaigns for ripped products at scale. The HOW for every other method.
- Product Research for Supplement Brands — the long-term brand build. Kalodata methodology, the MOQ funding cycle, the 5-10% rebrand rule. The LTV tool.
- Reading & Interpreting Data — the validation discipline. Which Shopify reports actually matter, what averages lie about, the Claude data Q&A workflow. The HOW for every decision after launch.
- Winning Product — Next Steps — what to do after a product wins. Back end → protect → brand. The bridge from "I have a winner" to "I have a real business."
Reading order (insane-first): Pump n Dumps → Untapped → Sales Campaigns → Supplement Brand → Reading Data → Winning Next Steps. Start with the biggest mind-unlock, end with the operational discipline that turns winners into brands.
How this module fits the rest
- Module 5 (How to Make Ads with Intent) is the layer for understanding an existing brand's avatar. Module 6 is the layer before — how you find the product in the first place.
- Module 7 (How to Build a Custom Brand From Scratch) is what happens after a winning ripped product graduates into a real brand. Module 6 → Module 7 is the natural progression.
- Module 4 (Additional Revenue Sources) layers onto every method in Module 6 — Google Ads, email, organic distribution all start working once a product is validated through this module's research.
- Module 3 (Using Claude to Automate Your Entire Stack) is the production layer that creates the custom creative once Module 6 has identified the product.
The Brandon-rule on ripping
Ripping has a stigma in DTC. The myth: "real operators build custom, only lazy people rip."
The reality: every winning DTC product is built off proof-of-concept somewhere. The brands posting screenshots on Twitter doing $5M months — most started as ripped products that got rebranded. The biggest names you know have ripped products in their portfolio history.
Ripping isn't lazy. Ripping is pattern recognition. You're identifying products that already work, sourcing from the same supply chain, running validated creatives, and rebranding 5-10% to make it your own. That's not theft. That's how you accelerate from zero to first winner in 60 days instead of 18 months.
The operators who reject ripping spend years trying to invent the next great product. The operators who embrace it spend 8 weeks finding the next product that already works, then layer their own brand on top of it. Both paths lead to brands. One is faster.
The Brandon-rule on intent applied to product research
Module 5 had the rule: "If you have intent and thought behind everything you're doing, even when you have a loser, you're winning."
Same rule applies to product research: every product test should have a hypothesis going in.
A product test without a hypothesis is just guessing. A product test with a hypothesis ("this product has a large emotional TAM + strong existing creatives + no dominant brand competitor, so I think it'll convert at $2-3 CPC") produces data even when it fails. The failed test that taught you something is more valuable than the random win that taught you nothing.
Run every product through this module's research framework with intent. Hypothesis first, then test, then read the data, then iterate. The operators who do this for 12 months end up with permanent operating IQ that compounds across every future product.
